Overview and Objectives of the Program "Combined Program on Microbiology and Immunology"

It is necessary to understand host immune responses to develop effective treatments for infectious diseases such as pandemic influenza, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), or malaria. Recent understanding of impact of commensal bacteria to the immune system and its involvement in development of autoimmune diseases also points out importance of understanding interactions between microbes and hosts to develop effective treatments for autoimmune diseases. Thus, it has been clear that it is essential to develop researchers familiar with both microbiology and immunology, which have been developed independently.

In this program, we will make use of resources in Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Immunology Frontier Research Center, and Graduate School of Medicine to provide training sessions for development of such researchers.

To develop researchers with expertise covering both microbiology and immunology

Development the researchers familiar with both microbiology and immunology

This program "Combined Program on Microbiology and Immunology" is two-year course, consist of the required courses “Combined Program on Microbiology and Immunology 1,2” and “Advanced Program 1,2”. All of these courses must be completed for completion of the program. The attendance start is possible from either of Program 1 (even academic year), Program 2 (odd academic year).

Combined Program on Microbiology and Immunology

Top researchers in the fields of infectious diseases and immunology will give (1) Lectures on basic concepts of the field and (2) Discussion sessions on important recent papers in related fields.
Basically, it starts every Tuesday 10:30am-, at biken hall (schedule detail)
*At the paper discussion, it is necessary to read the assigned paper, and to prepare about backgrounds, figures and implications (what the result of the study suggests) in advance.

Advanced Program

The researchers invited from other institute will give the seminars on the current expertise in the field of immunology and microbiology.
Basically, it is held once a month 4:00pm-, at Taniguchi memorial hall (schedule detail)
